For Maternity, Jon DeCelles was inspired by the birth of his sons and the softness and the comfort of a mother's arm can provide a child. He uses soapstone, alabaster, marble and granite and selects each stone himself. After twenty years of sculpting, Jon DeCelles’ found that the realistic faces he loved to depict were now evolving into abstract ones – the artist now sculpts monumental abstract pieces, as well as miniatures barely measuring an inch. He loved sculpting faces and was so passionate by his art that he took sculpture courses, which led to his recognition by experts.
